Prizes for Worcester Players at Hereford

John Loynes was the star Worcester performer at the 36th Hereford Congress. He won a share of the third prize in the Minor section losing out by half a point from first prize. See him below as he strides away with a winner's cheque! The other prize winner from Worcester was Ray Collett, who captured a grading prize in the Major tournament.

The complete contingent from Worcester is shown below. Peter kitson competed in the Open section scoring 3 out of 6. In the Major section, Ray Collett got 3½ and Andy Farthing 2½ points out of 6. In the Minor tournament, John Loynes was on 4½, Ricky Brookes 3, and John Clarke 2½.

The playing hall was spacious and the organisation of the tournament was ably managed by Phil Meade. The bookstall was provided by CCF Mindgames, which thoughtfully stock second-hand popular fiction for non-players.
