Steve Mellor Doubles up on Speed Chess Trophies

Steve won the City Club's annual Lighning Tournament. By regaining the trophy he lost last year the 2010 Lightning Tournament, Steve adds the Terret trophy to the Five Minute Blitz trophy he won in November. Players had only 10 seconds for each move. Players were allocated to two pools in the preliminary rounds. Steve won the Pool A Tournament with 4½ from 5 games. He was followed by Andrew Farthing on 4 who came above last year's champion Ray Collett on 3½ knocking him out of the semi finals. Other scores in Pool A were: Phil Smith and Pat Greenow each on 1½ points. Pool B was won by Ed Osbourn with 5 out of five and was followed by Jim Keene on 4, Rob Sutton on 3, and Colin Vernon on 2 points.

In the semi finals Andrew Farthing lost to Ed Osbourn and Steve Mellor beat Jim Keene. Steve won the Finals game in style to regain the title he lost last year.
