2011-12 knock out tournament won by Steve Mellor
10 May. In the final, Steve Mellor was on the back foot for almost all of the game. After a complex middle game, Nick gained a passed pawn on the queen side, but Steve had an initiative with an attack on Nick's king in a rook and minor piece ending. As the players approached the sudden death time lime limit, Nick was still a pawn up, but had to play accurately to stop mate. With only seconds to go it proved easier to maintain the attacker's threats than to parry them and Steve won on time.
