Mercia Megafinal 2005: Highlights
In earlier years Worcestershire was combined with Shropshire for a 'Mercia' Megafinal. Mercia was of course the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom made great by Offa. It stretched well beyond the Midlands. At its greatrest extent it included London and included the rivers Mersey and Humber.
In 2005 the 'Mercian' Megafinal over a hundred children battled it out over 6 rounds gaining points for their county and school as well as for themselves.
Nunnery Wood High School, Worcester were placed second on 34½, beating Adam's Grammar School, Newport, Shropshire on 31½. Twenty nine schools from Shropshire, South Birmingham and Worcestershire had players at the tournament.
