Reported by Ray Collett. On paper, Worcester missed a chance to get heir first match win fielding their new signing from Gloucester and Collett on board 1. Board one never looked more than a draw with players exchanging all the heavy pieces very quickly and entering a bishop-and-pawn-ending. Seeley had a slight space advantage, but injudicious moves by Collett allowed the Redditch player to attain a classic good versus bad bishop scenario, but there was no viable breakthrough and Seeley offered the draw. On board 4, Clack went ahead, but then overlooked a disastrous entry of the opponent's queen into her position with catastrophic loss of material.

Reported by Arnold Kirkland and Roger Yates. Sutton and Cleak had a hard fought game. In a complex rook and pawn ending Sutton was two pawns down. Cleak, however, pushed too hard and Sutton improved his position. After simplification Sutton had an advanced central pawn and was able to demonstrated the win by shielding his king from checks to promote the pawn.

Reported by Giles Stanton. Things started badly for Redditch when their board 4 blundered a rook and Ward soon won. Later there was a draw on board three. Bricknell was a pawn down from the opening but determined to create counter-play. He activated his queen and won a piece to force resignation. In the mean time having won a piece and two pawns Stanton allowed his opponent to win his queen for a rook and was fortunate to find a perpetual to draw the game.
