8 Jul, Stewart Fishburn reports. Stourbridge win local Derby. In the Tony Evers match, Stourbridge ran out victors 7 - 5 against Halesowen.
14 May. Warley beat Rushall. In an exciting match with a surprise result on board 1, Warley beat Stourbridge to take the League Championship by tie break having won one and drawn against Rushall.
28 Apr. Warley look for u115 grade players. Warley Quinborne has had to default a Division 3 match and club secretary warns it may have to pull out of that division.
21 Apr. South Birmingham Div 2 champions. The birmingham team won their last match against bottom-of-the-table Mutual to overtake Boldmere and put themselves out of reach from Rushall, Warley and Wolverhampton who have matches in hand.
16 Apr, Wolverhampton DCL website reports. Stourbridge won the 10th Humphreys Trophy last night with a narrow victory over neighbours Halesowen.
18 Apr, Halesowen website reports. Tony Taylor (Halesowen) won the BDCL Division 6 individual final,
13 Apr, Dave Scriven reports. Dudely League teams compete in the Humphreys Cup final of the Wolverhampton League at Stourbridge on Wednesday 15 April.
12 Apr, ECF website reports.National Club Championships. West Bromwich were defeated by Sutton Coldfield. in their try for the Open in the National Club Championships held at Birmingham Airport Hotel. Warley Quinborne were placed 6th in the Intermediate tournament.
6 Apr. League player wins at Bolton. Rich Wiltshir (Rushall) shares 2nd prize in the Bolton Easter Knights tournament with 4 points from 5 games.
24 Mar. Halesowen Div 3 champs. In Division 3, Halesowen win their last match of the season the ensure they will be Division 3 champions.
15 Mar. Chris Cox (Mercia) shared third place in the Minor tournament in the MCCU congress at Walsall.
5 Mar, Chris Evans reports. The funeral of Mike Walker, stalwart of Mutual Club was held on Tuesday 17 March. Excerpt from Cllr Pete Smith Mayor of Walsall's Diary: "On Saturday, it was a pleasure to attend the Bloxwich Junior Chess Club's Awards Presentation and Christmas Party at St. James Church Hall in Leamore. ... The talent of so many of these members is amazing ... The Chess Club is growing all the time and also meets after school at St. Peter's Catholic Primary School and Goldsmith Academy Primary School. All this would not be possible without the coaching team, Ray Dolan, Eunice Dolan and Matti Rehman".
