| Match reported by Ray Collett. Uncharacteristically, Malvern's board 1 made a disastrous error allowing Steve Mellor a check followed by a family fork. After two even draws the match depended on the result on board 4. Players were patiently manoeuvering behind static pawn chains with Worcester's player, David L Roberts having consistent pressure. Eventually the defender weakened and David finished off with a nice sacrifice. | |||

| Match reported by Andrew Farthing and Dan Lambourne. The games finished in reverse order. On board 4, players reached an equal endgame after 25 moves with a bad bishop pitted against weaker pawns. On board 3, Nick Harris felt he went wrong in the transition between opening and middle game and was happy enough to accept Glenn Cox's offer of a draw at move 16. Board 2 had a little more life to it, but it never seriously threatened to be anything other than a draw. Only board 1 went beyond 9:30pm. Steve Mellor had pressure and Dan Lambourne found he had to keep his rook on the h-file protecting h7 for most of the game. Lluckily for Dan, Steve Mellor's rook also had to stay on the h- file to keep it there. Steve tried to open up the position near the end. Although a computer finds Steve a winning line, in the time trouble it wasn't found over the board, so a drawn match. | |||

| Match reported by Peter Kitson and Jim Friar. Stephen Mellor had the better of a tremendously sharp line in the French, eventually winning the exchange for a pawn. Craig Evans conjured up a nearly mating attack which white in turn didn't meet quite accurately so that though white still had pressure in a rook ending, it was clearly a draw. Peter Kitson went for an overambitious plan of central and queen-side play in a Vienna Opening. John Wrench won by a mating combination whose key move his opponent thought was unplayable. Nick Harris and Jim Friar played a Four Knights Game, White achieved some preessure but Nick evidently didn't think he had a real attack, and their game finished early in a draw. On board 4, young Friar won the exchange and then the game. | |||
