The Worcestershire megafinal of UK Chess Challenge will be at 9:45am on Sunday 15 May at the University of Worcester. Players who gain four points or who are the best scoring boy or girl of their age-year will qualify for the Northern Gigafinal to be held on Saturday 9th July (Under-7s to Under-10s) and Sunday 10th July 2016 (Under-11 to Under-18s) at Wright Robinson College, Gorton, Manchester M18 8RL where there will be money prizes for the highest scoring players.
All Megafinal players should have qualified from a junior or school chess club tournament. If your school has not entered the UK Chess Challenge, you can enter Worcestershire Junior Chess Academy's qualifying tournament to be held on 30 April 2016 at King's School, Worcester or one of the "Last Chance Saloon" tournaments.
The organisers are very grateful to all our sponsors especially Delancey plc.
Alex Holowczak will be assisted by chess organisers from schools and Worcestershire Chess Association for controlling each section of the tournament. Competitors will have at least 5 games and almost all of you will get 6 games during the day because this is not a knock out event. Clocks may be used on the upper boards of some sections, in which case all the moves will have to be made within 20 minutes. In the Megafinal, you score 1 point for a win or a bye, half for a draw, but nothing for a loss. Some of the age sections in which there are fewer entrants will be merged, but the highest scoring boy and girl in each age group will win the appropriate Worcestershire Supremo (boys and young men) or Suprema (girls and young women) trophy.
