Match report Ray Collett. A splendid start to the season for Redditch, who struggled in 2010-11 to find a win. On board 1, Michele Clack let Collett escape from a poor middlegame position when one of his knights trampled all over her position. Richard Turner gained space and a strong knight against a bad bishop in a blocked position. The game concluded when Roger Yates walked into a knight fork that won his queen. Rob Sutton sacrificed unsounfdly and paid the price losing to Pete Seeley. The board 4 game was equal throughout and the players agreed a draw. Worcester News reported the result in their edition of 5 Oct, but the story did not appear to be on their website.

Match report Roger Yates and Ray Collett. Board 1 saw Arnold Kirkland play a Grand Prix Attack against Ray Collett. The Worcester player ran short of time and exceeded the limit in a complex position where he may have been able to win a piece. Phil Smith developed a clear advantage and then won material as did Worcester captain Roger Yates. Worcester News reported the result in their edition of 5 Oct, but the story did not appear to be on their website.

Match report by Michele Clack. Droitwich got their revenge! Michele Clack dropped herself to give Danny Gander the experience and he won. Peter Seeley got a solid draw against Bill Watson, always a good result but the other two went wrong for Redditch who console themselves that they have some points this year.

Match reported by Roger Yates and Giles Stanton. In a very tight game on the top board, players agreed a draw. On board two, Giles Stanton sacrificed a knight on f2 to expose white's king with interesting possibilities of a good attack. Unfortunately the Redditch player continued in fantasy mode with a further speculative knight sac.. Phil Smith defended well and with his considerable material advantage soon won. In a close game on board 3, Richard Turner strayed into time trouble to lose. On four, Danny Gander won a pawn in the opening. Danny then applied further pressure in the end game and won further material and the game.

Match report by Ray Collett. This was definitely a match of two halves. Hagley dominated on boards 1 and 2 while Worcester on boards 3 and 4. The young Friar brothers crushed their opponents with mating attacks. On boards 3 and 4, the Worcester victors won by attrition.

Match report by Ken Durnell. Despite the unavailability of the Rooks team's two highest graded players, they gave a spirited performance and at one stage led by 1½ to ½. The fourth board game was the last to be completed, having developed into a complicated endgame that gave choices of a variety of 'alternative lines' for both players.
